Ladies Auxiliary | 2011 Year in Review

Well, we made it through another year!

January 2011 began with a report about our very successful Mrs. Claus Tea. Unfortunately, our fire department responded to a signal 30 at the Wright home on New Salem South Rd. It was a very bad weather night (BLIZZARD!), so Shirley and Charlie brought the bus to the fire with refreshments for the fire fighters. Sadly, the house was lost. All residents escaped safely. At our meeting, It was decided to suspend Secret Pals for awhile.

February brought with it more snow and the beginning of our Fish Fry.

There was no March meeting, due to the Fish Fry’s and Easter Egg Hunt, but, we attended the Fire Department Installation Banquet and a good time was had by all.

In April, a thank you note was read from Shirley Unser. The Auxiliary donated a tea pot and basket to the group, To Life. Katy put together the basket for Mrs. Claus Tea raffle. Flowers were taken to Sue Cronk while she was in the hospital.

May found us planting flowers again in the Gong Garden and around the Memorial Stone. We marched in the Voorheesville Memorial Day Parade and again won Best Women’s Marching Group… Although we were the only one!

In June, we went out to dinner and July we worked at the Punkintown Fair. Next year, 2012 will be the 70th Fair. An especially fun time to be sure!

In August, we attended the Neighborhood Picnic and enjoyed Bingo after.

In September, a thank you note was read from the Springer’s as we sponsored Christina in her effort to win Miss Altamont Fair. We decided to cancel our craft/vendor fair, as we felt we had enough involvement in other endeavors. We also experienced our first Hurricane in many years. Hurricane Irene, downgraded to a tropical storm, brought her wrath to upstate NY and Vermont. New Salem was hit quite hard, but many people in the area of Schoharie lost their homes. The Auxiliary provided food and beverage, and a place of refuge to fire fighters who spent endless hours pumping cellars and stand-by’s at wires down. Many were without power and some ended up staying at our firehouse until it was safe to go home.

In October, the meeting was conducted by our Vice President, Katy Carl. We ordered a wagon, to be used during times when we bring refreshments to the fire fighters. Plans continued for the upcoming Mrs. Claus Tea. We helped with the Fire Department Open house and attended the After Fair party held at the Fire house.

November, brought nominations for 2012 Officers.Books were ordered for the Children attending Mrs. Claus Tea.

In December, we held our Tea, and everyone had a wonderful time, as usual. Auxiliary members, Children and Parents experienced a very Special time with Mrs. Claus and Santa. We attended the Fire Department Holiday party and our own Holiday Party which was held at the Unser home.At a short meeting, new officers were chosen. The Officers for 2012 are: President, Shirley Unser, Vice President, Katy Carl, Secretary Sue Gruss and Treasurer Paula Finkle. Congratulations to all! We enjoyed delicious light appetizers and sang carols with Kenny. Then, opened our grab bag gifts.

2012 brings the 70th Anniversary of the Punkintown Fair. Quite a milestone! It should be a very memorable year!
